How to Claim Insurance under the New National Health Policy

Through their mediclaim policy, National Insurance Company has maintained a claim ratio at 115.55%. This ratio is unprecedented and unmatched in the health insurance industry in India. This also reflects the speed with which insured clients get claims approved under this company. National Health Insurance follows two processes: reimbursement and cashless claim processes.

Reimbursement Claims

  • Intimate a Third Party Administrator within 72 hours of unplanned hospitalisation. Intimation should happen 72 hours before hospitalization if planned.
  • Submit all the required documents (bills, prescriptions, etc.) in their original forms to the company within 15 days from the date of discharge, along with a discharge summary.
  • Pre and post-hospitalisation coverage can be claimed separately.
  • Submit all original copies 15 days after the post-hospitalisation treatment is completed.

Cashless Claims

  • Ensure your hospital is a network hospital.
  • When hospitalisation is planned, intimate your Third Party Administrator 72 hours in advance. If unplanned, inform them within 24 hours of hospitalisation.
  • The hospital will send your TPA the pre-authorisation form necessary for the cashless process, and then the claim goes through the approval process.
  • If approved, they directly settle your expenses with the hospital.
